There's a simple idea behind this project and its desing: people are what give WIP its shape over time, using the space, living it and building a community around it. This is a visual identity designed to change, to transform and to adapt. Our proposal for WIP is a graphic system that can evolve with the space.

WIP — Work in POLISS is a four-year urban and social regeneration project transforming the POLISS centre in Sassari, Sardinia, into an open, inclusive and evolving community space. The initiative brings people together through culture, education, sports and collective experiences, inviting them to actively shape the future of the place.

The visual identity translates this spirit into a flexible graphic language. Our goal was to have a system capable of changing its appearance, tone and complexity according to different audiences, contexts and activities.
The logo is built entirely from circles arranged to form the lettering. Each circle represents an individual, while their combination creates something collective. The message is simple: it is not just the space, but the people who participate in it.

This elementary geometry becomes the foundation of the entire visual system. Circles can be assembled, repeated, rearranged and combined into different compositions, creating a recognisable graphic vocabulary with a big range of expressions. The same elements can generate restrained layouts or expand into playful, colourful or deliberately chaotic compositions.
Variability becomes also a tool for inclusion: for a project addressing an entire community, communication needs to work across different audiences and levels of accessibility. The system can be reduced to its essential elements when clarity and immediate understanding are priorities, or become more expressive and experimental for cultural events, younger audiences and informal contexts. Typography, colour and composition shift accordingly, without compromising the identity's recognisability.

This transformation reflects the evolution of the physical space: over four years, POLISS will progressively change through architectural interventions (designed by ORIZZONTALE), activating its entrance, gardens, sports facilities and areas dedicated to music, art and cultural activities. Each phase introduces new functions and opportunities for participation, allowing the community to redefine how the place is used and experienced.
The identity is designed to evolve alongside this process, providing a liquid yet recognizable visual personality. Like the space itself, it remains open to new configurations, interpretations and future possibilities.

Our studio developed the logo and visual identity system as part of a broader communication project involving copywriters, video makers and other designers, each contributing their own perspective to the evolving language of WIP.

Our proposal is a system where simple elements come together to create something collective, constantly adapting to the community it represents.
